Quick help

The fastest path through Fate's main features. If you can't find what you need here, scroll on to the FAQ or just email.

Getting started

Open Fate, sign in with Apple, Google, or email, then tap the plus in the tab bar to take a photo of any tarot card. Your first reading streams in within a few seconds.

Photo readings

Snap a card from any deck (Rider-Waite, Marseille, indie). Choose upright or reversed, add an optional intention, and the reading writes itself in 3 to 5 paragraphs.

Virtual spreads

Don't have a physical deck on you? Pick a spread (3-card, Celtic Cross, and more) and Fate lays the cards for you, then synthesizes a reading across the positions.

Deck scan

Point the camera at a card you don't recognize and Fate identifies it from the 78 Rider-Waite cards, then opens the card's learn page.

Ask AI

A grounded tarot chat that knows the cards. Ask follow-up questions about a reading, or talk through a card you're trying to understand.

Privacy

Readings, photos, and notes live in your private Firebase account. Photos go to OpenAI only when you tap to generate, only to write that one reading, and not to train any model.

Fate Pro

Unlimited photo readings, spreads, scans, and chat for $4.99 weekly, $9.99 monthly, or $49.99 yearly. Manage or cancel anytime from iOS Settings.

Delete your data

Delete any single reading from History. To wipe everything, open Settings, scroll to the bottom, and tap Delete account. Photos, readings, and your auth record are removed.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a specific tarot deck for Fate?+

No. Fate works with any tarot deck. Rider-Waite, Marseille, Thoth, indie decks, anything. The AI identifies the card from your photo and interprets it using standard tarot symbolism. If you don't own a deck at all, use Virtual Spreads and Fate will draw the cards for you.

How does a reading get generated?+

Your card photo is resized on your device (max width 1024px) and sent to a Firebase Cloud Function. The function passes the photo to OpenAI's vision model (currently gpt-4o-mini) along with your chosen direction and any intention you typed. The model writes a 3 to 5 paragraph interpretation, which streams back to your phone word by word.

Are my readings stored somewhere?+

Yes. Every reading you generate is saved to your private Firestore subcollection so you can look back at it. The card photo lives in Firebase Storage under a path keyed to your user ID. Only you, signed in to your account, can read it. Nobody else.

Is OpenAI training on my card photos?+

No. Submissions through OpenAI's API are not used to train OpenAI's models, per their API data usage policy. The photo is sent only when you tap to generate a reading, and only to produce that reading.

What does the free tier include?+

Three lifetime photo readings, three virtual spreads, three deck scans, and three Ask AI chat messages. Plus three follow-up questions per saved reading. These counters never reset (that's the whole point of a free trial). After that you'll see the paywall.

What does Fate Pro cost?+

Three options in one subscription group: $4.99 per week, $9.99 per month, or $49.99 per year. All three are marketed as unlimited and unlock every AI feature. Prices may vary slightly by country (Apple sets local pricing).

What does 'unlimited' actually mean?+

Pro gets you unrestricted day-to-day use of every AI feature. To prevent abuse, there's a fair-use cap of 250 AI calls per week per account, resetting every Monday at 00:00 UTC. That ceiling is well above any normal use of the app. If you ever hit it for legitimate reasons, write to support@moetalaat.com and we'll reset it by hand.

How do I manage or cancel my subscription?+

On iPhone, open Settings, tap your name at the top, choose Subscriptions, then Fate. From there you can switch tiers, cancel, or restart. Apple handles billing, so refund requests also go through Apple (reportaproblem.apple.com).

The card was misidentified. What should I do?+

Try again with a sharper, more centered photo (card filling most of the frame, clean lighting, no other cards in the shot). If it's still wrong, the AI's vision has limits. Email support@moetalaat.com with the card name and what Fate called it, and the prompt gets sharpened.

What's the difference between upright and reversed?+

Upright is the traditional reading. Reversed is the same card with the meaning inverted, often interpreted as shadow work, blocked energy, or the opposite expression of the card's theme. Toggle the direction before you tap Generate.

Can I use Fate on Android or the web?+

Not in v1. Fate is iPhone only and requires iOS 17 or later. An Android version may come later if there's enough demand.

How do I delete my account?+

Open Settings inside the app, scroll to the bottom, tap Delete account, and confirm by typing DELETE MY ACCOUNT. A Cloud Function then permanently removes every card image, every reading, your user document, and your Firebase Auth record. The action is irreversible.

I'm having a billing or App Store issue.+

Apple handles every subscription transaction. For refunds, use reportaproblem.apple.com. For subscription state issues (showing as expired when you just paid, etc.) email support@moetalaat.com with your receipt and we'll sort it.
