Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of Terms
By downloading, installing, or using Fate ("the App"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree, please don't use the App.
2. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years of age (or 16 in the European Economic Area) to use Fate. By using the App, you represent that you meet this requirement.
3. What Fate Is
Fate is an iOS tarot reading app. You take or upload a photo of a tarot card, and the App returns a written interpretation generated by an AI model (currently OpenAI's gpt-4o-mini) running behind a Firebase Cloud Function we host. Readings, card photos, your notes, and bookmarks are stored in your private Firebase account.
4. Not Divination Advice
Tarot readings in Fate are for reflection, journaling, and personal practice. They are not a substitute for professional medical, legal, financial, psychological, or any other advice. They are not predictions of future events. Use the readings as prompts for your own thinking — and consult a qualified professional for any serious decision.
5. Your Account
You sign in with Apple, Google, or email + password. You're responsible for keeping your sign-in credentials secure. You can delete your account at any time from Settings.
6. AI-Generated Content
Readings are generated by a large language model interpreting your card photo in real time. The output is non-deterministic and may contain mistakes, misidentifications, or interpretations you disagree with. The card identification relies on what the AI can see in your photo — it may misread blurry, partial, or non-standard cards.
You're free to use the reading text as you see fit (e.g., journaling, sharing, copying it into your own notes). We don't claim ownership of the AI-generated interpretation tied to your photo.
7. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Use the App for unlawful purposes or in violation of applicable laws
- Upload images that are not tarot cards in an attempt to abuse the AI service
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the prompts or underlying model behavior
- Use the App in a way that imposes unreasonable load on Firebase or OpenAI (e.g., automated request flooding)
- Upload content that is illegal, hateful, sexual involving minors, or otherwise prohibited by the underlying AI provider's usage policies
8. Subscriptions & Payments
Fate is currently free to use. If we introduce paid features in the future, subscription terms will be presented in-app before any purchase, and billing will be handled by the Apple App Store under their standard terms (auto-renewal, cancellation via your Apple ID settings, refunds via Apple).
9. Intellectual Property
The App's code, design, copy, and brand are the property of the developer and are protected by intellectual property laws. You are granted a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the App for personal use.
Tarot card imagery captured by your camera is yours; the AI-generated reading text tied to that image is yours to use freely.
10. Third-Party Services
The App relies on the following third-party services:
- Google Firebase — authentication, database, storage, and Cloud Functions
- OpenAI — generates the reading text from your card photo
- Apple / Google Identity — sign-in providers
- Apple App Store — distribution and (eventually) payments
Your use of these services is governed by their own terms. We're not responsible for outages, data loss, or behavior of these third parties beyond our control.
11. Privacy
Your use of Fate is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which explains what data we collect (very little) and what happens with the card photos you upload.
12. Data Deletion
You can delete individual readings from the History screen at any time — both the Firestore document and the Storage image are removed. You can delete your entire account from Settings → "Delete account," which irreversibly removes all your readings, all uploaded card photos, your user document, and your authentication record.
13. Disclaimers
The App is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied. We don't guarantee that Fate will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that the AI will always be available. The reading text is generated content and may be wrong, incomplete, or unsuitable for your purpose.
14. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Fate and its developer shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the App — including but not limited to loss of readings, decisions made based on readings, or service interruptions.
15. Modifications
We may modify these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be announced on this page. Your continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the modified Terms.
16. Termination
We may suspend or terminate your access to the App if you breach these Terms or abuse the underlying AI service. You can terminate at any time by deleting your account.
